1. i would put beltran over the checkerboard effect, that may be holding you back. 2. while ive used hard lighting before, it generally makes too big a change for my taste. youd have to lower the opacity.
this sig is pretty good. i still think you could do better on beltran himself, but the bg very looks very nice to me. the text could be worked on as well. trust me, i know good text is one of the hardest parts of making a really nice sig.
all in all, i see nice strides, but some minor tweaking still could help you a lot.

Thanks Snakes. First time you've given me a complement.
I actually duplicated the checkerboard effect. One layer below Beltran at 30% opacity and another above him at about 4%. I actually liked the way it looked above him but I may be in the minority.
What exactly would you do to the Beltran render to make it better?
Looks like you hard lighted the whole sig instead of just Beltran. Here's what it looks like if I add another layer of Beltran with hard lighting. This would make it 7 layers of the Beltran render...
im not noticing much difference...quanity of layers doesnt make qualify, just remember that. also, if you just keep adding layers on top, odds are the ones on the bottom arent even doing anything...
aww rooks, im sorry. your work is getting better and better. i never meant to come across as a jerk or anything, i hope you dont take it as that, but if i say "nice, i like it! " i think you wouldnt get a whole lot from it. whenever i post a sig i would hope people would critique it in detail and tell me more of what i could improve as opposed to what i've done they liked. keep up the good work though pal.
