Personally, I don't think he's a HOF pitcher. He's been consistent, yes, but great? No.
Consistantly good for 15 years is great. Just ask Glavine.
Right. Being dominant like Koufax or Pedro for a short span is incredibly difficult, and deserves to be praised. However, I think long-term consistency is almost just as hard to attain. There's definitely something to be said for being a rock for your entire career. I'd have to go look at Mussina's numbers to determine how close I think he is, but just because he didn't have the dominant span that Pedro or Koufax or others did doesn't mean he automatically isn't HOF-worthy. My .02 anyway.
Neither of those stories are exactly endearing. I wasn't paying too much attention to baseball in 93 but why wasn't Mussina put into the game at all? Especially in his own stadium. I'm not justifying what he did, I'm just curious why he didn't play. I wouldn't let those two stories define his career for him though.

He was injured, and Cito told him before the game he wouldn't pitch unless it went to extras. Mike started warming up anyway. That action caused death threats to be sent Cito's way.
And is there anythng more douche-like than complaining about honouring a guy with cancer, and blaming your loss on that delay?
Mussina doesn't have my respect (and yes, those 2 events tell me enough about his attitude), but he's still a good pitcher and should be in the HOF.
Cito sums up my feelings well: [quote]"Mike Mussina can kiss my ass — and you can print that," Gaston uttered last month to a reporter who had unwisely approached the Toronto Blue Jays manager seeking a quote for a story on Mussina.[quote]
i just think its crazy that hes never had a 20 win season with all the great teams he's pitched on until now, with the yankees not making the playoffs.

congrats though. ive always been a fan of moose.
One of the two years he got 19 wins, Benitez blew a save at the end of the season to cost him win 20. In this day and age, 20 wins is a lot more difficult to come by than in the past. 18 is the new 20.
