Before the season I tried to stay away from Sabathia. I didn't think there was any way that he'd repeat his '07 campaign, specifically because he threw for the highest total if innings in his career, 241, nearly 50 more than he did in 2006.
So C.C. made me look like a fool this year. But he's already thrown 244 IP this year, surpassing his career high, and he's still going. It's obvious that the man is not in the greatest of shape. So my question...is Sabathia a bigger risk than we all seem think, or is he just a unique guy who can be that type of horse year in and year out? He's probably going to be the highest-sought free agent this offseason and I'm just wondering if anyone else sees this as being a relatively significant concern for teams hoping to sign him.
There is some level of concern for me. He's pitched almost 500 innings the past two years, but yet he's only 27. I have him in a keeper league that is also an auction league. He will be pricey, but when I also have Hamels and Peavy, Crab Cakes is the first one of the trio that I would move to save salary. To me, he's the highest risk I have on my pitching staff and I want to get the most I can out of him.
I was reading (I'll have to find the link) that scouts are saying he is looking very "tired" right now, with his arm angle dropping down and throwing way more off speed stuff than he was back when Milwaukee first got him. Seems to me that would make him a bigger injury risk. Throw on top of that he's pitched a TON of innings this year (and last), that he very well might go on three days twice this week, and then if Milwaukee gets into the postseason he'll have at least a couple more starts... yeah, I'd say there's concern. Milwaukee is riding him like a rented mule.

that link makes no sense... how is it possible that a 24 year old, in his first full year in the majors, on a team that isn't competing, is the most abused pitcher in baseball... no franchise is that stupid...
