Are there any commissioner's out there who are not using wins, and instead using another stat to measure a pitcher's putting his team in a place to win?
I'm starting to see more teams take wins , and then horrendously lose the ERA and WHIP categories. The wins category feels very arbitrary to me.
So is there any one out there who has a suggestion about what direction to head?
My league started using Wins along Quality Starts this past season (Yahoo added it as an available stat); As for teams going crazy with the W's and killing the ERA and WHIP - perhaps adding an inning cap wouldn't be too bad of an idea, forces owners to be smart about who they have taking the mound as opposed to just arbitrarily starting anyone with a ^
Both of my roty leagues use wins. One is a 4x4 & one is a 5x5 (runs,k's). In the 5x5 we are considering going to head-to-head and if so would add quality starts to make starting pitchers more attractive and reduce the impact of an innings minimum.
One way to prevent streaming, not pitchers and positional, is to do weekly rosters. That way at most you see someone cranking a couple 2-start pitchers, but otherwise there is no way to jam in extra starts.
I'm warming up to the QS replacing wins, if your SP pitches well you get credit for it. bullpen blows it, bad for the team but you've got your qs already in hand. also alot tougher to stream qs because most of the avail pitchers in the FA pool will have a tougher time getting a qs.
I'm assuming (usually a big mistake) that you are a h2h league, if so just limit the innings pitched weekly. A better way, if your stat site permits, limit starts to 162 over the whole season, or 6/7 starts per week.
