Closer Carousel - 2009 - WHIR

Postby Paco625 » Tue Sep 16, 2008 11:40 am

Looking to next year, who do you think out of the group below have the best chances to have the closing job to start the season:

Gregg
Lindstrom
Chris Perez
Hanrahan
Chris Ray
Pena
Quals
Mike Gonzalez
CJ Wilson
Balfour

Right now, I'm thinking the guys with the best shot are Perez, Hanrahan, Ray and Mike G. Agree, disagree, thoughts? Anyone know if Gregg is still under contract next year?

Thanks, WHIR, leave a link.

Perez is a good bet to close for next year. The other guys I am not so sure of. I don't have much faith in Hanrahan or Mike G. One guy that I have my eye on is Jose Arredondo. I think there is a good chance that KRod will leave LA and head east which would leave Arrendondo the top guy for the job.

Mike Gonzalez, Chris Perez, and Grant Balfour(Percy should retire if the Rays win the WS) should all have the job next year.
Jay Bruce is mah franchize. I love you Chris Davis!

Heath Bell should be on this list. The padres don't seem to wont to keep Hofman.

Sounds like the Marlins have pretty much handed the closer job over to Lindstrom now that they've moved Gregg.

lindstrom should get the first crack, but don't count out jose ceda if he slips up at all - he definitely has closing potential

I would keep an eye on Juan Cruz as well... depending on who picks him up, he has the stuff to close (if he can stay healthy) so he may be given a shot on a team in need of a closer...
