What's WITH this dude? 26 HR in 287 AB between AA and AAA, respectable .314 AVG, solid .448 career MiL SLG with a huge uptick this year......but 80 BB in only 93 games? 8-o His OPS is .463! That's a freakish number. 41 K's? 8-o 8-o In comparison, Dunn is leading the majors with 113 BB in almost twice the AB. His BB/K ratio is 1.95:1, better than Pujols who leads the league with 1.9:1, and MUCH better than Mauer who is 2nd with 1.64:1.

Usually young players and players with his build are more of the exact opposite. What gives?

I've been very impressed with Kila and was fortunate enough to get him off of waivers when he cleared a couple weeks ago on Yahoo. He hasn't been getting the ABs since he's been up, but I've heard that might be due to the lefties they've been facing. He's Double A's Top Player and actually has above average skills at 1B too. All this and I still don't know how to pronounce his name. :-C

I hate to put the damper on the Kila lovefest but I think I should point out a few things. First off he repeated Double A which helps to explain some numbers(along with the league he was playing in is considered a hitter's league). In 2007 he hit .249 between both High A(.251) and Double A(.247)while hitting 21 doubles and 21 homeruns as a 23 year old. He did show very good plate discipline and like Omaha Red Sox stated.....is at least an average defensive 1B. Kila has increased his power and some of that may be that he is getting more mature as a hitter(he already has a very advanced feel for the strike zone) and repeating Double A in a hitter's league. Several scouts however feel that his bat speed may not be good enough to sustain anything close to this in the majors. He is defintely worth a flier but I think that some expectations should be tempered regarding his long and short term potential as a player.

He cetainly has the ability to at the very least be the best Royals 1B in a long time.

As much as I'd hate to agree with a cardinal....I am in this case. :-)

Kila has had a very good year but card1975 has pointed out why it's not quite as impressive as it may seem. I do like him as I love his plate discipline and power potential but there are reasons to temper those expectations too. Add in the fact that KC is wanting to give Shealy every opportunity to show what he can or can't do before giving Kila a legit shot means the wait will likely be a little longer. The way Shealy has been playing recently and their dire need to see what he's got, I'm going to assume Kila starts the year in AAA next year while they give Shealy a shot to fail again. With our "abundance" of 1B/DH types I'd be suprised to see Kila up before the All-Star break....at least up as a starter. We'll see though.

Jacobs to the Royals. :-? Looks like Kila starts in the minors, unless he's traded.

Yep. I had high hopes he'd be my backup 1B.
He once hit a ball between my legs so hard that my center-fielder caught it on the fly backing up against the wall.

If Satch (Paige) and I were pitching on the same team, we would clinch the pennant by July fourth and go fishing until World Series time.
