--- Well, I was referring to the $7 Million one year deal that Seattle gave him after he made $3.4 million in 2007 with the Orioles.
It's a little confusing to me because I'm not well versed in the ins and outs of player contracts, but the reports I've read say that he's not a free agent until after the 2009 season, but his contract was only through 2008 - so how does that work? Is he obligated to play for the Mariners through 2009 but his pay rate hasn't been set yet?
Nevertheless, $7 million up from $3.4 strikes me as being pretty phat.
Yeah, it's a raise, but just the normal course of a player's time under team control... He is indeed obligated to play for the Mariners through 2009, and you're right that his pay hasn't been set yet. He is arbitration eligible, so the two parties (player and team) could go to arbitration and argue about how much he should be paid with a third party determining which party makes the better case, or the two parties can agree on what his one year deal will be worth (that's what happened last year IIRC). Or he could always sign long-term but I have to think that's unlikely at this point.

I think he will take a bit hit in value especially with me. I kept him over Lincecum

This move probably cost me money.
