Cosmologists theorize that strangelets could possess a powerful gravitational field that might allow them to convert the entire planet into a lifeless hulk.
Is it really worth it?
I'm not sure what exactly we will learn from doing this,
A pair of Russian scientists even think the LHC would be the world's first time machine, and that we should expect visitors from the future to arrive soon after it goes into operation.
Before I get worked up over this, somebody is going to have to convince me of two things: 1. that's it's even possible for this to bring about an end to the world, and 2. that that would necessarily be a bad thing.

Well, a number of findings could be applied from this study. For example, creating distributed computing systems that would create exponentially greater data storage and even tighter encryption. As a result, less volatile quantum machines could be created that are more suited for wider use.
There's no doubt the LHC is extremely volatile. I'm just as skeptical that such a machine could end life as we know it in one fell swoop but by the same token, I'd be just as skeptical of the idea of microscopic black holes disappearing as easily as they are created.
