Best/Worst Sports Cities

I'm a hockey fan and I have been reading about the Washington Capitals' fire sale. They have given away Jagr, Konowalchuk, Lang, Nylander, Bondra and Gonchar since October. They are basically icing a junior team now.

This got me thinking about the Washingto Bullet/Wizards - they suck as much as the Caps.

If is wasn't for the Redskins, Washington would be the worst sports city in history (and they want an MLB team??).

What are the best and the worst sports cities out there? Take into account fan support, success on the field/ice and history/tradition.

As much as I dislike their teams, I would have to say that Boston has to be near the top. The Bruins, Sox, Pats and Celtics all have proud traditions, are fairly successful and have great (even though uninformed and inarticulate - no offense) fans. If it was not for Harry Sinden they would be the clear cut number 1.

As for worst, you can't do much worse than Pheonix. The Suns, Coyotes, Diamondbacks and Cards are all pretty sucky, no tradition to speak of, lousy uniforms and not much fan support. If it wasn't for the one WS and Gretzky they would be definite basement dwellers.

I would say Toronto is the worst sports city.

The best is undoubtedly Detroit.

Please dont ask me to back up these beliefs.

I'm not going to weigh in on the best, though Boston and Chicago come to mind.

Worst, though, has to be Atlanta. They don't sell out the playoffs down here. People still spend the game trying to get the wave started. I've had fans get mad at me for standing up for the last pitch. The fans here are terrible.

St. Louis is a pretty good sports city. Not just because I live here but the fan support is great for the teams. I do admit that alot of fans were gained for football when the Rams won the super bowl but there were alot of faithful fans before that.

The Cardinals have great fan support despite the fact that they haven't been to the World Series for a while. Alot of the players like Rolen and Edmonds fell in love with the city and their fans.

I don't know much about hockey because I'm not a fan, but at my school alot of people keep up with hockey.

All St. Louis needs is a good basketball team and they're set.
