Get New Balance. I bought my first pair about 10 years ago and never bought another brand since. I also have wide feet and their shoes always fit me well.

i actually already wear new balance, is there a certain type that is actually a running shoe that i should be looking at?

Regarding the back pain, make sure you are stretching well, and not just your legs, before the run -- trunk, shoulders, neck, too. There is also a chance that the crunches and squats are causing the back issue and you are just not feeling it until you are fatigued from the run.
