It is subjective. This exact play is often rule a H. It's not like the Official Scorer knew he was breaking up a no-hitter. Had I been watching the game, I would have been fine with the call at the time it was made.

If C.C had scattered a couple other hits, there would be no big deal about the call.

Or...if he had scattered a couple other hits, and he was charged with an error on that play, he'd probably be bellyaching about that call instead.
