Did I make some sort of faux pas here?
Kind of, because you aren't defining your terms properly. You say that the Triple Crown isn't a reflection of a hitter's dominance (something I don't agree with anyway). But the Triple Crown doesn't purport to be an award to the most "dominant" player. It is an award for winning Average, Home Runs, and Rbi. So it isn't "flawed" like you say it is ... because since on the face of things, it doesn't measure "dominance," thus it would be a flawed tool if you applied it in a way to measure "dominance." I'll put it this way, the Triple Crown has never been awarded in error, the person who gets it led the league in those category, as an arbiter of who was best in those cats, its a perfect award.
