Polls on ESPN tell you something

That the average ESPN reader knows little to nothing about the history of their own team or other teams.

The worst is Puckett over Walter Johnson for the Twins/Senators. Almost as bad is Clemente over Honus Wagner for the Pirates.

I would also choose Eddie Collins, who got only 8.8% of the vote, over the Big Hurt, Three Finger Brown (1.9% of the vote) over Banks, and Tris Speaker or Napoleon Lajoie over Feller.

FBC List

It isnt just ESPN polls. Casual baseball fans in general will vote for who they know or who they have heard the most about. The All-Century Team was perfect proof, this just further backs it up.

I do agree, Collins (and most greats from that era) don't get a lot of recognition. I still would've voted for Frank though.

I'm not sure on what the poll....is, quite exactly. If it's best player for any team, then the list is way, way off. If it's the "face of the franchise" popularity contest, it's a bit better but still off, if we're going by most popular player for the time period and/or longest impact for fans. Cap Anson should be the Cubs' franchise player (the team officially renamed themselves the Orphans after he left), Honus should be the Pirates', Bagwell should be the Astros', either Carew or Killebrew should be the Twins', Brooks Robinson should be the Orioles, and Angels' should be David Eckstein.
