The thing that made Bay a top 20 pick a few years back was his steals. In 2005 he hit over 30 homers, had over 20 steals and hit over .300. The guy is a phenomenal baserunner. He isn't that quick but he knows how to run the bases. Since the start of 2005 he has 46 steals in 50 attempts.

His Slugging% in Fenway is .552
His slugging% as a member of the Red Sox is .561
His Slugging% in PNC was .571
His batting average with the Red Sox is .348.
His batting average in Fenway is .345.
Obviously he is seeing some benefit from playing for Boston, but most it probably coming from the presence of real protection in the lineup (Youkilis, Ortiz, Drew, ect...) and the joy of playing for a contender.
