Hitting or pitching sweep in roto?

Postby Bwanna » Wed Aug 13, 2008 3:53 pm

Just curious, anyone ever swept their hitting or pitching categories in a roto league? I.e., perfect scores in all the hitting or pitching categories?

If you did, was it because the rest of the league just gave up? :-?

Pretty darn tough to do in a competitive league.

last season in my keeper i was close to sweeping pitching. 1st in SV, ERA, WHIP, K/9. 2nd in K, but only tied 6th in W. a result of me being closer heavy, and really only having peavy, webb, bedard, young as SP. 12 teams.

the guy i lost to in the league swept the hitting cats, but most cats were very close. his lineup? atkins, beltran, holliday, howard, kinsler, markakis, magglio, posada, reyes, wright, weeks. his team was filthy.
this year his offense is great and leading some cats, but some other teams (mostly mine) have caught up. pitching, its not looking like ill get close to sweeping again. i traded away peavy and bedard to upgrade my offense.

and no, this isnt the most competitive league, but its fun.

Even in non-competitive leagues, unless everything goes perfectly, it is very difficult to sweep all categories. You need a lot of luck.

The closest I've come is currently in Behrens' Roto League. I don't think I'll get it, due to only having 8 pts. in Wins, but for awhile I had straight 12s across the other 4, and currently have 12 in Saves, with 11 in each of K and ERA, and 11.5 in WHIP.

The leader in my 20 teamer is 2nd in avg, 1st in HR's and RBI's (both by a long ways), 4th in runs (can only get to 2nd though), but 8th in SB's (5 behind 3rd and 7 behind 1st).

Well, I have a _very_ slight chance in my 14-team cafe league in pitching...

R: 13 (748, 2 runs behind leader ;-D )
HR: 10 (177, 9 behind leader :-/ )
RBI: 13 (720, 17 behind leader :-? )
SB: 12 (122, 7 behind leader :-? )
AVG: 12 (.283, .009 behind leader :-t )

W: 11.5 (63, 9 behind leader :-? )
SV: 13.5 (87, tied for first ;-D )
K: 13 (888, 49 behind leader :-? )
ERA: 14 (3.55, .04 ahead ;-D )
WHIP: 13 (1.22, .02 behind leader :-? )

125 out of 140 total.

This is probably the closest I've ever been in any of my leagues over the years, and I'm sure I've just killed my chances by even talking about them, but it's still cool to dream. ;D

Right now in my 12 team league we have 7 batting categories.

I've got a 12 in R, HR, RBI, Avg, and Obp
I've got an 11 in SB
and I'm bringing up the rear in K's with a 1 so i had to sacrifice the strikeout category, the sweep is impossible for me.

I'm only in 1st place in one of the pitching categories in my main money keeper league, but I have a legitimate chance to sweep them:

ERA: 2nd (3.64, leader has 3.52)
Ks: 3rd (812, 2nd has 820, leader has 858 but he's way over the innings pitched max)
Saves: 2nd (78, leader has 82 but I'm closing fast)
W: 2nd (62, leader has 66, but the leader is way over IP max so I'll easily catch him)
WHIP: 1st (1.22, next guy is at 1.25)

I think ERA and K's will be the toughest for me to finish 1st in - but I have a shot.

2 years ago I tied for 1st in WHIP and got first in every other pitching category. This year I have a shot at winning W, ERA, WHIP, and Ks, but I'm near the middle in saves.

Currently:

W: Tied for 2nd, 1 behind 1st place.
Ks: 1st, 64 ahead of 2nd place.
ERA: 1st, .04 ahead of 2nd place.
WHIP: 2nd, .07 behind 1st place.
Saves: 6th, 23 behind 1st place !+)

I do have a chance at gaining a couple points in saves, but 4th is probably as high as I can get in that.

My pitching staff:

SP: Webb, Peavy, Lincecum, Billingsly
RP: Gregg, Street, Ziegler, Wood

I'm awfully close to a sweep on the hitting side in my 10 team keeper league. 10's in runs, HR, OBP, 9.5 in SB, and 9 in RBI. RBI is the only thing I probably wont have a shot at, 40 down on first place. Its mostly because three of my homerun hitters are leadoff guys: Ramirez, Sizemore, and McLouth.

Pitching is not so good. I am 6 in W's, 9 in SV's, 8 in K's. ERA keeps yo-yoing between 7 and 9. WHIp is about 6. My starters are very good but my bullpen, while getting goodly amounts of saves, blow alot too (or just generally suck). That being said, a week ago today I had a 90.5 out of 100. It has since dropped.
