As far as pitching goes, you've got to be all over Dontrelle Willis here. I'm not even a huge fan, but his upside is too high for him to be sitting there in the 12th.
Hitting-wise I like Dmitri Young. Yeah I know, he's on the Tigers, blah blah blah. That didn't stop him from doing .297 and 29 HRs last year, and the Tigers are leaps and bounds better. The AVG and HRs should stay about the same, but the R and RBI could go way up.
You also might consider Patterson, but regardless of what he says I wouldn't count on perfect health coming off a torn ACL. It generally takes at least a full year to get back to full strength. The steals may not be there.
Thanks, guys.
Thinking of taking D.Willis and D.Young, but I'm not too familiar with either so another opinion would be great. How safe a pick is D.Willis, worth the upside?
I'd say Young if you needed a 3B, but you have Chavez already. I would go with Gibbons here. Matsui is also a Nice pick, he doesn't get many HR, but he has a good Avg and RBI and Runs will be there. I think he'll improve on his HR total from last year. He should hit over 20.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. -Crash Davis
