He's close to returning to the Indians(a week or so). Anyone picking him up or looking to play him after holding on to him? I have Ryan Doumit at catcher right now, does anyone think Victor will produce better numbers when the playoffs roll around.

Yahoo:
Aug 17 Updating previous items, The Associated Press reports Cleveland Indians C Victor Martinez (elbow) homered during a 2-for-4 performance in an injury rehab assignment with Double-A Akron Sunday, Aug. 17.
Aug 17 Martinez (elbow) went 0-for-2 as the DH in his first rehab appearance on Friday, the team's official site reports.
Recommendation: Martinez will DH again on Sunday before catching a game on Tuesday at Triple-A. He could be activated after that if everything goes well. You can expect the Indians to ease Martinez back into the lineup between catcher, first base and DH but some rust should be expected. With an inviting upcoming weekend series in Texas you still might want to activate him for this week.
Definitely worth picking up and putting in your DL spot if you're in need of a catcher!!! I'd wait to see how his does before counting on him as your everyday guy though.

Does anyone know exactly when he will be returning? I read somewhere that he will probably be called up when the rosters are exapanded on Sept. 1, but I was just wondering if anyone else has heard anything more definative or anything at all. Thanks.

He is not in tonight's lineup. Last thing I heard, he might be back before the 1st.

From Rotoworld:
Indians activated C Victor Martinez from the 15-day disabled list.
He's in the Indians' lineup at first base on Friday, with Kelly Shoppach behind the plate. Martinez struggled before going on the disabled list: he was hitting just .278 without a home run and an OPS under 700. He's gone 8-for-26 with a homer during his minor league rehab stint, so it's worth double checking to make sure he's on a roster in all leagues.
