My Cristian Guzman Era is Over

Postby Marvelous Merv » Tue Aug 12, 2008 2:30 pm

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Christian Guzman for stepping in as my Raphael Furcal replacement, but his recent hand injury and over-all lack of meaningful production over the past three weeks has led to me scrapping him in favor of Mike Aviles and the returning-if-but-for-a-moment Nomar Garciaparra...

I actually think that Christian Guzman will bounce back once his hand totally heals, even then he only gives you Runs and Avg. And Aviles is an upgrade over a healthy Guzman. Good move.

I would also like to thank Guzman for saving me for total ineptitude at SS in my 20 teamer. But he's been replaced by Lowrie (from waivers) and now Stephen Drew (by trade).

Guzman came from nowhere to help a lot of teams this year. With the incredible lack of depth at SS, he helped a couple of teams in my league stay competitive at that position. Damn him.

I get that. I also enjoy the almost inevitable 5 RBI weekends that Nomar puts up during those waining moments of relative good health. Guzman can go a month without 5 RBIs (which is not to say I fault him for that, its just a reason to keep Nomar over Guzman when Guzman's average dips below .250 for an extended period).

I added Aviles on July 31. Hell, I just picked up Melvin Mora a couple of days ago AFTER his 30+ RBI month. How many waiver wires is Melvin Mora still sitting on? Alot...

With Guillen's nagging problems lately, I went to the Guzman well again in one league. He's back, baby!
