Ells isn't in Reyes's league... And this is coming from someone who doesn't own Reyes on a single team. In almost every part of the game Reyes is superior.

Wrist injuries do take away or limit the amount of head first sliding. You tend to be a little tenative sliding at all really. With that said I'm not worried about his speed or the number of steals he'll continue to get. I think with Ellsbury its all about if he can become a consistant .290+ hitter....which I think he can.

He'll still likely go earlier in drafts than where I would like to take him though.

I think this is a poor comparison on many levels, with respect to position eligibility as well as general skill sets and expected fantasy stat contributions.

I think the article raises a very valid point about Ellsbury's hitting approach. He often looks overmatched at the plate and he tends to swing at just about everything. I think if he can refine his hitting and continue to develop - let's not forget that this is a young kid here who was put on the fast track to the Show - he will have more value in the longterm and maybe be more of an Ichiro-like player instead of Pierre. I don't think he's ever going to be a .330-.340 hitter but if he can flirt with .300-.310 regularly, show better plate discipline and raise hell on the basepaths while playing gold glove caliber defense in CF, I'll take it.

Of course, in this situation, I think he is one of those players who will be more valuable in real life than he will in fantasy circles...

There certainly seems to be a lot of wishful thinking and what if's involved in Ellsbury discussions. Someone actually starting a thread comparing Ellsbury to a perennial top 10 draft pick just goes to show how overrated he really is. I'll gladly take a pass on him for the next 5 years unless he tanks and becomes a late round pick.
