I went out and watched Guthrie take on the Rangers yesterday, and I've got to say I believe he is the most underrated pitcher in the AL. He has been consistent the entire year, has good velocity and great command. He has been pretty unlucky with his record but is 6-1 in his last 7 decisions. Posting a 3.26 ERA and 1.17 WHIP on the year from a guy pitching in the AL east is nothing less than stellar. Yet when I've offered him in trades he gets rejected every time like he is worthless (i.e. offered him straight up for Winn) Anybody else experiencing the same thing with this guy?? I don't get it, and at this point I'm glad nobody has taken him from me, I think I'll stick with him the rest of the year.
His name isn't "flashy" so getting something for him in a trade is tough.
I drafted him in an auction league for a buck as a sleeper pick. Needless to say plan on keeping him at two bucks for next year.

If there's one thing you shouldn't do with Guthrie it's trade him. He is way higher in value than almost anyone thinks, so you likely won't get a good deal for him at all. Just hold onto him.
I agree he is very underrated even though he's been consistently good for almost two years. I don't know why this guy gets almost zero attention. I think he gets looked over because he doesn't strike out a whole lot of guys so some people don't know he's got pretty good stuff. Maybe a good sleeper for next year too if he stays under the radar.

He probably has more value in real life than in fantasy esp in roto.
I think his problem is that he doesn't strike many guys out and plays for a Baltimore team that isn't winning alot of games. Those are 2 of the 4 cats in roto. Also his ERA and WHIP have been good, but I personally see those rising a little bit (but not alot).
I stumbled across him in the FA Pool when I was looking to dump Eveland (yeah, I had him rostered ). So far he's been a great find, but as mentioned, not flashy and stays underneath a lot of people's radar, I'm guessing.

I traded Volquez/Theriot a couple of weeks ago for a little bit of a hitting upgrade (Glaus/Hardy), and immediately grabbed Guthrie off waivers to replace Volquez. He's been a fantastic upgrade over Volquez in terms of the last 6-7 starts, so it's worked out well so far.
Everyone else here is right, even in my 12-team keeper he's been a free agent most of the year and people have only picked him up for spot-starts. It's true that his strike-out totals aren't gaudy, but he can get you about 4 or 5 per start and is a very savvy pitcher, so you don't worry too much about him getting shellacked in a start. Of course, now that I've said that he probably will, but I agree, he's very underrated.
