Rent it first if you don't know if you will like it. Have you played Oblivion? Fallout 3 is very similar.
I haven't, unfortunately.
The fighting in the game is fun but I would still say it leans more towards RPG than action. Still, I wouldn't want to dissuade anyone from buying the game. It's a great game and probably worth checking even for non-RPG fans.

I have nothing against a game with a good storyline, in fact I enjoy them, I just never really got into the combat of games like Final Fantasy 7 on the PS - probably the last RPG game I've played.

Combat is nothing like the FF series. It's very much FPS but there's also a VATS system for those of us who suck at FPS (like me).

Ya sorry I just re-read my last post and it makes it sound like the fighting is RPG style but I meant to say the game itself is more RPG. The fighting is really nothing like standard RPG fighting, it's pretty innovative but it's definitely nothing like Final Fantasy or any other RPG.
Basically it's like an FPS that you can pause and pick out a body part that you want to target and cripple. It gives you a percentage to tell you how likely you are to hit that target. Staying crouched and in the dark is crucial to getting close enough to enemies to hit them accurately without being spotted. Obviously once you take a shot you'll be exposed so the first one is the most important. You also get bonus damage for sneak attacks and the like. You can run and gun too if you want but its harder that way. If I don't kill a guy first shot I like to run around a corner and drop a mine. Although the AI is not too bad so they don't always fall for it. Anyway, the fighting scheme is way better than turn-based RPG games.

I won't spoil anything but I just finished the game (the main quest at least) and I had to look up online to make sure that was really the ending. Disappointing. The main quest was kind of short and unsatisfying not to mention that when you finish the main quest credits roll and that's it...game's over.
I just bought the game. I just escaped the vault, so I'm still at the beginning.
Side note: Anyone on PC have trouble using a controller? I picked up a Logitech controller too and I can't get it to work with this game. It really sucks having to use the mouse and keyboard. Any tips? Maybe the controller I got sucks?

Ending doesn't really matter to me as long as the game itself is fun. I love this game.

Sounds like I will probably like the game. I'll probably check it out, although I don't have a clue when I'll have the time to really dig in.

I'm playing on a PS3. I think it would work much better with a mouse/keyboard on a PC.

I did too, but the ending really, really sucks. I rarely finish games so I did have a great time but it still doesn't take away from the bad ending that leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I was expecting to buy this one, but I'm glad I didn't now. You'll see what I'm talking about once you get there.
