Perez is the only person in that pen that hasn't sucked at some point this year. Great ERA, great WHIP, great strikeout guy, low walks, etc. Is it b/c he is left handed? Haven't we gone beyond that in this day? Betancourt was awful as a closer, Kobayahsi not much better, today he is letting Mujica and his 5.50 ERA close?!?!?!? Idiot comes in and gives up a double, double, and HR without recording an out to ruin today's game.
In addition, Perez was awesome across the board last year as well. What gives? He said he wanted to use the rest of the season to see if anyone in the pen can close next year. Here is an idea......................RAFAEL PEREZ!
C- Montero/Napoli 1B-Pujols 2B-Cano SS-Jeter 3B-Wright OF-Dunn, J. Upton, Ichiro UT-Chris Young Bench - Carlos Lee, Pierre, Aramis
Hilarious, after Mujica?!?!?!? gave up 3 runs to blow the 3 run lead, Kobayashi comes in a does his best Mujica impression also allowing 3 runs and recording no outs w/ a single, walk, HR. All this after Perez pitches the 7th and 8th innings allowing 1 hit, no walks, no runs, and 4 Ks!

You have to remember, this is the guy that was perfectly fine letting Joe Borowski close for his team for 2 (or more?) straight years. Bullpen common sense doesn't seem like a strong point for Wedgie...
Honestly though, it seems like Wedge uses Raffy for getting out of late inning jams, which he apparently thinks is more important than closing...

Yeah, I've read that, and I gues it makes some sense consdiering the Indians suck and dont' have many leads anyway. He does seem to be going two innings lately, but can't they start throwing him in the 8th/9th instead of 7th/8th?

haha that's funny. but there are many people in baseball that think you must use your best relievers when things get stick in the 7-8th innings instead of using him to finish games where they might be up by 3 runs.
and it worked like a charm last year. joe blow led the league in SVs and perez and betancourt were some of the best relievers in all of baseball. it worked in the past that's why he's doing the same thing this year.
