What's all this about? I was all excited to hear this "legendary" rap song. It sucked big time! To be fair, I didn't really pay attention to the lyrics (and if that's what makes it so great, then oops... ), but I was bored out of my skull.

You want some good rap, go with Method Man's "Release Yo Delf" or 2Pac's "Holla At Me." Those 2 always get me juiced up...

They serve a different purpose... NY State of Mind isn't a hype track. The instrumental is absolutely fantastic for the song. It sets the mood perfectly.
Also one of the most lyrical songs I've ever heard.

My favorites are Represent and Life's a Bi... but the whole album is classic and is widely considered one of the greatest rap CD's ever.
