Friend of BA Kirk Kenney of the San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that San Diego lefthander Brian Matusz has landed the first big league contract in the 2008 draft.

The fourth overall pick by the Orioles and the consensus best pitcher available, Matusz received a $3.2 million bonus. That bonus is the second-highest in this year’s draft, trailing only the $6.15 million the Rays gave No. 1 overall selection Tim Beckham. The total value of the deal has yet to be reported.

Good news for the O's.

It looks like Alveraz, Posey, Smoak and Hosmer are all shown unsigned. I am sure there might be news later on. I think I remember Moustakas's signing coming down the wire after midnight. We shall see.

I think Mike Montgomery has a chance to be pretty nice as well....once he packs on 25lbs and increases his velocity a couple mph! But yea, I couldn't be any happier with this years draft!

The only unsigned 1st rounders were Cole (Yankees) and Crow (Nats). Too bad for the Nats, I've been a fan of Crow.

Pretty impressive. Only three guys left unsigned. Very happy to see Alveraz and Smoak sign. I didn't expect Cole to be signed but Crow and Fields suprissed me.
