From Rotowire: Manager Jim Leyland named Zumaya his new closer prior to Tuesday's game against the White Sox, the Detroit News reports. "If we have a lead in the ninth inning, that's who will pitch," Leyland said. It's about time. The Tigers have been grooming Zumaya for the closers role for the past 2 1/2 seasons. He has the stuff to be a dominant closer, but will need to cut down on his walks. Owners in need of saves should act quickly if they want to pick up Zumaya.
DOH!

FYI...because of his injury Zumaya cant close on back to back days, so it's basically CBC

Actually no it's not. Closer by committee means anyone of multiple pitchers can close on any given day. What we have in Detroit at the moment is Zumaya will close whenever he's available to pitch and there's a save situation, which means we know which days he could close and which days he won't. For example, if Detroit plays 6 games in a week and has save chances every other day it would be Zumaya's job in all 3 since they wouldn't be back-to-back days. At least that's the way I'd interpret the latest lingo coming out of Detroit. That's not closer by committee.

if you want to argue semantics, fine...whatever you want to call it, it's still a mess, especially for those that dont play in daily lineup change leagues

That we can agree on.
Which bullpen is worse? Detroit, Cleveland, St Louis or the Mets without Wagner? Tough call.
Well Zumaya didn't even get a save chance before getting demoted. He's pitching the 7th inning right now. I guess that means it is now an actual committee and Leyland lied or changed his mind about Zumaya without having given him a save op.
