Any info on Jed Lowrie

Postby roundBallJef » Sun Aug 03, 2008 4:52 pm

Is he a big time prospect as SS for the Red Sox? I remember reading about him a while ago. Any Sox fans (or anybody) have some info?

Thanks.

I don't think you could call Jed Lowrie a big time prospect. He has average range and a strong arm and is filling in at SS with Lugo out but 2B is his more natural position. He does not have a lot of HR pop but will hit for average and has very good plate discipline. I'm in a AL-only league and I use Lowrie as my backup for 3B and SS.

To paraphrase what Terry Francona said about Lowrie, "he's (Bill) Muellerish." - meaning that he'll hit for average, but not get you a lot of HR's... like other's have said in this thread.

Last 6 games: 8/23, 4R, 11 RBI. I dropped Edgar 0-feria for Lowrie last night. He's been batting behind Bay who scores a lot and someone has to drive him in, although they had him batting second last night. I figure with the Sox playing my Sox this weekend, he's probably bound to have some more opportunities.

Is he an everyday player going forward...I just cannot seem to figure it out.

Bean-towners can you answer?
