Who is 2nd in line for saves at NYM?

Postby cwrtlm » Sun Aug 03, 2008 2:31 pm

Wagner seems to be breaking down so who is next in line for the saves there? Do they make a move for a closer? This would be a sweet place for a late season reliever to pop up!

Per CBS:

Eddie Kunz, RP NYM
News: The Mets placed SP John Maine on the 15-day DL Sunday with a rotator cuff strain, and called up RP Eddie Kunz from Double-A Binghampton.

Analysis: Kunz has a 2.79 ERA and 27 saves in Double-A and is an elite closing prospect with the Mets. He could well slot right into the injured Billy Wagner's closing spot immediately, which makes him a potential must-have in every single Fantasy league if Wagner is out for a while. Grab the young stud before anyone else does.

Yahoo hasn't added this guy yet. I was hoping to grab him before my league mates hear about him. Damn you yahoo...

There is a bit of debate going on about this in the Leftovers closer thread. I guess that's probably a good indication no one really knows. I do think the likelihood of Kunz being put in the closer's spot immediately is unlikely. Honestly, I would stay away from this situation. It could be CBC but I'd still put my money on Heilman. Despite all his troubles he's still the Mets best arm in the pen.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

I agree with Amazinz. Kunz may be their elite stopper prospect but I'd be shocked if they threw right into the fire... there are plenty of arms already there that have late inning major league experience.
