Justin Speier? Worth the effort?

Postby RynMan » Thu Mar 04, 2004 1:19 am

This guy is closing for the jays im assuming?
my theory is that he will get a few save chances seeing as though they are a good hitting team and have a decent enough rotation to keep games close. is he any good tho??? late late or FA round pick up???

I got him in the 20th in my 12 team draft, but you could probably pick him up as a FA. I believe he will be the Jays closer seeing as he has the best closer stuff on the team. If he gets the job I think he could be a good 2nd tier closer.

I have read many articles stating that it is Lopez's job and also many that say its Speir's. We will just have to wait and see what the Jays decide. Hopefully they will not have four players sharing the role. :-o

So far it's Speier, but Lopez will eventually take over and be our closer of the future.

Everything I've seen says the two of them will compete for it in spring training.

My personal opinion is that Speier will win the job and be just fine this year. :-)

I just drafted Speier in the 22nd round of my 12 teamer as(hopefully) my 4th closer. My question is this. If Lopez does emerge and take over the closing duties is Speier worth keeping on my roster for holds?

What about Ligtenburg? Will he get a shot to compete for closer in spring training? He's done it before...about as much as Lopez or Speier?

Since your league counts holds, picking up Speier was a good move. You will get one or the other with him. ;-D
