I've just made this same post in Perlick's spot starters in the Who to start/bench forum, but I know that this thread not only applies to giving advice on baseballs leftovers (Kendrick and Harrison), but is also much more popular. I've done a lot of research on these two, as I'm trying to gain 8 points in the next two days to convince the managers below me to deal some of their players and make them think they're out of contention.
If it's not too late in some of your leagues, I'm going with Kyle Kendrick for tomorrow's game at Washington. Although he's been shaky this season, his last start against Atl gives me hope...as does his 3.63 career era against Washington. Playing in DC will be a big advantage to a Citizen's bank start...although Kendrick has never pitched in Nationals Park, I think he is the best option for a ww spot start win for July 31st.
I am projecting 7 innings, 2 walks, 5 k's, 1 er, and a win.
Another spot starter for Thursday night that I like is Matt Harrison of the Texas Rangers. He'll be facing off in Arlington against the Mariners. With only 4 major league starts under his belt, this 22 year old 2005 3rd rounder has shown that he can keep his team in playoff contention in the AL West. Harrison is coming off of a decent start against the A's where he gave up 1 earned run in 5 innings, leading to his 2nd win in 4 career starts. If nothing else, with the Rangers potent offense behind him, and facing the 2nd worst team in baseball, Hairson will at least get you a win tomorrow night.
I'm projecting 6 1/3, 3 walks, 4 k's, 2 er, and most importantly, a win.
I just picked both of them up and I suggest, if you're 50 or more innings under, you do the same. Good luck and God speed!!!
July 4th, 4:51 pm: Big Pelf is going to be an all out star...Pick him up before someone else does.
