But....the only teams that seemed interested in trading for him were the DBack's and the Angels.
So they took the better of the two deals, and felt that it was better than the draft picks.
Whether they are better or not is highly debatable either way, and also something that cannot be determined for years and years.
So these people that try and clown on a team that pretty much had no options is comical.

It's not like .750 OPS 1B are that rare.

Why is everyone making it sound like Kotchman is done improving after his 1 or so years in the majors?

I don't think the Braves, or the Angels for that matter, think that.

Kotchman looks like he should turn into a reasonable OBP guy, 2008 must just be a down year for him (his walk rate this year sucks - hitting coach?). Unfortunately his career high for home runs is 17 so far, so time is running short for him to develop big-time power at age 25.

Amazing that there wasn't a better looking deal then this about.

You'd think that C.C Sabathia would have a similar price tag to Tex, but obviously excellent SP is more rare and in demand then excellent 1b this season.

kotchman is still young. yeah if for his career he's a sub 800 ops hitter, then he ain't all that, but i highly doubt he's already done developing.

he already has great K rate, and a fantastic bb/k ratio (last year he actually walked more than Ked). only player off the top of my head right now that i can think of who consistently does that is albert pujols. i'm sure there are others, but i'm also pretty sure it's a pretty good company.

someone earlier in this thread posted "who cares about his k rate?" are you kidding me? really?

also, he's not even necessarily a low OBP guy like some people are making him out to be. it's just low THIS year. he had .372 obp last year. is he necessarily a high obp guy? who knows. it's too soon to judge either way. his ops too, as a matter of fact, was .840 last year.

not saying kotchman is as good as teix or anything. as an angels fan, i'm glad that we got teix. just saying, lets get our facts straight here. kotchman isn't bad at all. not by a long shot.
