Here's a guy that some people may have forgotten about. This is what his 06' stat line looked like: 448 AB, 65 R, 27 2b, 23 HR, 85 RBI, to go along with a .310 average. Those are pretty solid numbers. His name is Juan Rivera, Outfielder/DH for the Angels.
Due to the signing of Matthews he lost playing time in 07' and most of this year. However, the Angels are trying to find time for him to play. Whether it is DH, or the outfield, he has been getting at bats.
You are probably curious as to what his stats look like this year. Well they look like this: .248 average, 5 HR, 15 RBI, 16 Runs in 113 at bats. Yuck! But, it's what he has done lately which gives me hope. In July this year he has posted a .333 average, 5 HR, 12 RBI, and 10 Runs in 51 at bats. This is after he posted a .185 average in April(27 at bats), a .188 average in May(16 at bats), and a .158 average in June(19 at bats).
Historically he is a 2nd half performer though. These stats are of his whole career.
April: 2 HR, 9 RBI, with a .230 average in 139 at bats
May: 7 HR, 33 RBI, with a .237 average in 219 at bats
June: 8 HR, 43 RBI, with a .259 average in 266 at bats
July: 19 HR, 49 RBI, with a .295 average in 261 at bats
August: 10 HR, 46 RBI, with a .322 average in 267 at bats
September: 16 HR, 63 RBI, with a .323 average in 434 at bats
In conclusion he is a very solid 2nd half player that could be useful. The talent has always been there in my opinion but he just wasn't getting that many at bats. In the at bats he has gotten he has shown he is a solid player. Watch his playing time situation closely. If he keeps playing regularly which he has lately he could help your team.
I've always liked Rivera. His career never really seemed to get on track, though. If he stays healthy, he could put up some decent power numbers. Nice one.

if he continues to hit and therefor continues to play then yes it is something to get excited about, because he is someone alot of people probually dont know about. he had 23 HR in 124 games in 2006. Matthews is making alot of money, but the Angels can easily pay that and have him sit his ass on the bench while Rivera continues to put up crooked numbers.

It's really not. I watch the kid play every day and he's a solid hitter but he is really only suitable in a deep league. In Riveras 2006 "break out" season he killed 11 home runs in one month and had 12 home runs the other 5 months combined.
Interesting post. I saw your avatar which said Yankees, and I thought to myself, "if this guy mentions Robinson Cano, I'm going to be pissed (for wasting my time)". Instead, a quality post and a very interesting sleeper. Thumbs up.
