thoughts on Hermida?

Postby stumpak » Mon Jul 28, 2008 12:51 pm

This guy remains an enigma. Overall, the power seems to have come along to what people expected (he is on pace for 24 HR) but the BA sucks. He basically can't hit at home. This problem befalls a lot of Marlins, but Hermidas BA splits are atrocisous (.216 v .288) and OPS is even worse (.636 vs .874).

What do people think about him for the rest of the season and after? Giving that he is hitting #2, he is clearly a very nice player on the road, and in particular on the road against righties. But his potential was once much more than this. Will the breakout ever happen? He is still only 24.

Second half, not so much, but two years from now I bet he'll be a strong outfielder that has figured it out for that team.

I'm begining to hate Hermida. As soon as I drop him he'll become a masher a la jeff baker. So stay away until I tell you I've dropped or traded him.

At the beginning of the year I had him as a good sleeper pick but it's looking like last year's second half was just a teaser. At this point I'm thinking I'm gonna wait for him to have a pretty good hot streak before I start targetting him again. I'm not quite ready to drop him in my keeper just yet though.

I've got to see him play the past two nights vs. my mets...although he's played well, the guy is honestly slow as balls. Hopefully he'll start living up to his potential and stop showing ephemeral brilliance

yea i said it, ephemeral :-D
