Indians acquire Anthony Reyes

Postby Havok1517 » Sat Jul 26, 2008 5:24 pm

Indians acquired RHP Anthony Reyes from the Cardinals for RHP Luis Perdomo.
It's nice to see Reyes finally get out of St. Louis. His conflict with pitching coach Dave Duncan over what kind of pitcher he was never figured to come to a positive resolution. Over the next year or so, we'll get a chance to find out whether Reyes was right all along in looking at himself as a power pitcher or if he should have trusted Duncan and began using a sinker as his primary pitch. The Indians may stick him in Triple-A for now, but he should get a chance to join their rotation soon. He'll be a better sleeper in AL-only leagues next year than he will be for the final two months of 2008. Jul. 26 - 3:40 pm et rotoworld

I'm intrigued as a Tribe fan, didn't really expect to see my team buying anyone. Reyes has a solid arsenal of stuff, and he put up a pretty high K rate in his first year in the majors. I'm inclined to believe he COULD stay as a power pitcher in the big leagues, and it doesn't hurt that Prog Field is a good pitchers' park.

Good luck to Reyes. It was pretty obvious he wasn't going to get a shot in St. Louis.

I was hoping that the Twins would take a chance on him. He's got a good strong arm. Low risk and medium/high reward. good move by the indians.

Looks like Reyes is gettin' his first crack in the rotation...

The Indians said they'd place Matt Ginter on the DL and call up Anthony Reyes to start Friday against the Blue Jays.
Ginter has a strained forearm. Reyes could prove to be a permanent rotation addition if he gets off to a nice start. AL-only leaguers will want to keep an eye on him.

Yahoo! wrote:Aug 6 The Indians recalled Reyes on Wednesday, the Associated Press reports.

Recommendation: Reyes is slated to make his first start with the Indians on Friday. He went 2-1 with a 4.91 ERA in 10 appearances for the Cardinals. Since being traded to Cleveland, Reyes has pitched well for Triple-A Buffalo. The 26-year old minor league ace has always had great stuff and should see ample opportunity the rest of the season to translate his success to the major league level.

Reyes makes for a decent speculative play the rest of the way if you have the room ;-D
