We have a 10-team, H2H CBS league. It has 6 keepers, and favors pitching and home runs. The team in 9th made a trade to the team tied for 4th that I think is pretty fishy. In fact, it seems down right ludicrous.
4th place team gets: Ryan Braun, Manny Ramirez, James Shields, Brian McCann 9th place team gets: David Wright, Carlos Quentin, Jacoby Ellsbury, Justin Upton
I see it as Braun is gonna be just as good as right on offense, Manny is a good veteran, and this is Quentin's first time playing at this level for a full year or really at all. Shields is WAAAAY better than Ellsbury, especially in a league favoring pitching. McCann is the best player in our league at a shallow position, while Upton has shown little flair worth the attention he gets.

Ellsbury and Upton are obviously possible keepers as well as Wright.
Manny is a win now player for the 4th place team if he plays. I think you are overvaluing McCann. He's good but not the best player in the league.
Call me crazy but see nothing wrong with this trade.
Im the commish of this league. Frier is basically like a co-commish to me.. I let it pass and approved it. Upon furthur investigation we thought that the Upton/ Ellsbury part might be fishy. I approved it because I thought it was a fair keeper trade. We will see.
I think Ellsbury has great value. The guy could still turn it around this year and end with a great season. Upton and Ellsbury are great keepers.
You guys do give credit for runs and stolen bases in your league right?
IMO, Braun for Wright and Quentin for Manny are a wash. So it comes down to Sheilds and McCann for Upton and Ellsbury. I assume McCann wasn't going to be a keeper for the 9th place team and you can always get B level pitching in the draft. I can see where the 9th place team would trade Sheilds and McCan for Upton and Ellsbury.
Honestly, the only way to stop these kind of playing for next year trades is to not have as many keepers.

Again, the guy that is in last might see this as a rebuilding opportunity for next season. Which is what i assumed when i saw it. I just thought that maybe he has confidence that ellsbury and upton would live to to their hype.
My thing is that Upton shouldn't be a keeper, and Ellsbury is under producing. He has Pujols, Braun, McCann, Shields, Bay, Carlos Gomez, and Liriano before the trade. I had Upton, but I traded him becasue he was hurt, playing poorly, and killing me with strikeouts. I just find that your teams are WAAAAY too deep to trust Upton's potential that much. And as far as Shields being B-level, he's #14 in our league.

Why isn't Upton a Keeper? Every projection on the planet has him as no worse then a top 3 OF within a couple years. I've targeted him in trade talks in multiple leagues.
