What is going on with Rich Harden tonight?!?!

His fastest pitch has been 90mph. Is this a sign he is hurt or something? I've seen his splitter at 92 before. This doesn't look good....

might better belong in Injuries and Player updates forum.

He was experiencing decreased velocity in Oakland before the trade - he was checked out throughly upon being traded - probably nothing. Boy did I freak when I read the thread title. But he hasn't allowed a runner yet and has 5 Ks - so I'm not too concerned about pitch speed.

Hmm.. upon further thought, might better belong there. My apologies if it's the wrong forum.

As a huge Harden fan, I can't believe he's going to have success long-term cruising at 89mph. Two years ago he had more 100+ mph pitches than any other pitcher in the AL. I know his speed was down in oakland, but "down" was still mid-90s.

I mentioned this a while ago. His last start for the A's, he got roughed up by the White Sox and I noticed he was only throwing around 90-91 on his fastball. It's been a long time since he's made this many starts in a season, and he's probably just going through a bit of a dead arm period. Usually lack of control is the first sign of an injury, not velocity. With that said though, I dealt him as soon as he was traded to the cubs. I figured his value couldn't get any higher, and I'd rather not deal with the headache of worrying about him all the time. He's pitching great again tonight, so if your worried about it, move him.

A decrease in velocity is often a sign of an arm injury. Knowing Harden's history, this is not a good sign.

I have him and am NOT worried at all. I've heard on telecasts that he mixes up his fastballs, one could ber 88 (to Randy) and another could be 95 (forget who). He amps up when needed and backs down when he needs to. No worries.

I wouldn't say "no worries". They've already publicly talked about him having a "dead arm" not too long ago, and regardless, this is Rich Harden we're talking about. He's no work horse last time I checked.

Nevermind. 93 up in the zone with movement to get Conor Jackson. Plus I think the gun is a bit slow after watching Randy's pitching.

Sorry for sounding the alarm. ;-7

What station are you watching? I'm on MLB eXtra innings. I think their gun might be off.
