With wood placed on the 15 day dl, is Marmol going to get the save opportunities this week? Cbssportsline says yes, but I don't trust anything they have to say. Just making sure there isn't going to be a Marmol/Howry committee type approach.

WIth the way Marmol has pitched, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Howry get the SV while still using Marmol in the earlier innings, but that's just speculation on my part.

Yeah, I'd agree that Howry would probably get the save opportunities if only because he's done it before. Neither has been very consistent but since they worked Marmol hard early in the season I'd like to think they'll give him some time to work things out by continuing to set up the closer.

His regression seemed like a pretty good possibility. The Cubs are on TV more than almost any other team, and it seemed evident that Marmol was fortunate to have had such great numbers early on. He's had trouble locating his fastball all year and has been surviving with his wicked slider. I watched him pitch the eighth against Toronto earlier this season, and he literally didn't throw one strike with his fastball. He took each batter to a 3-0 or 3-1 count and came back to strike out two of them throwing only sliders. If he's throwing the fastball well, he's easily the best middle reliever in baseball....he's just had a lot of trouble doing that.

Fangraphs had a great article on him too, but I don't feel like looking for it. If you're interested go there.

If his fastball is as bad as AquaMan makes it sound, I would be very surprised if the Cubs put an arm in crucial situations when they're trying to win the pennant. Despite what CBSSportsline posted, I think it's gotta be Howry.
