encouraging outing. up next is tampa who i believe presents a slightly easier matchup then toronto. although some may disagree. and pitching in oakland is always a good thing. i will be tempted to pick him up for that game, but no tears shed if another owner grabs him first.
Gio Gonzalez took a loss in his major league debut after allowing four runs in six-plus innings against the Blue Jays.
Gonzalez allowed four hits, walked two and struck out four. 55 of his 95 pitches were strikes. He started off throwing 90-91 with his heater, but he was typically at 87-88 by the end of his outing. That's not really anything new for him, though. Gonzalez will face the Rays next time out.

Thu, Aug 7 LHP Gio Gonzalez made his major league debut on Wednesday night in Toronto. After allowing a three-run homer to Rod Barajas in the first inning, Gonzalez settled down and didn't allow a hit from the second through the sixth innings, retiring 16 of 17.
Yahoo. The bold part is the most important part of the two blurbs. Encouraging but I dont think I will be starting him v Tampa. Especially if that start is on the road.

It's going to be at Oakland, which will make the idea of starting him a little more enticing.
That makes it a bit more complicated. I guess it depends on how well Tampa is hitting at that moment. I just have this feeling Longoria will have a big game.

He had a 3 hitter through 6 innings which is pretty damn good for a 1st performance at the MLB level. After the first inning when he settled down and he looked great for 5 innings in a row, and only pitched to one guy in the 7th who singled and eventually came around to score via the bullpen. The 5th inning was impressive as he only used 8 pitches to get all 3 outs, and the 6th inning he only used 11. I am going to start him in oakland where his nerves should be calmer, and he will hopefully get out of the gate better.
I'm absolutely making this start today. The rays have a .724 OPS vs lefties (.765 vs righties), and a .725 OPS on the road (.779 at home). Also the lineup no longer features Carl Crawford or Evan Longoria

yea...up until longoria went out, i was hesitant...but a depleted rays team that has trouble vs. Lefties in addition to pitching at home makes this a good matchup to me
