Nah...

According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Chris Carpenter "has had difficulty recovering from his first relief appearance" Tuesday and has been unavailable since.

"I'm not your typical reliever," Carpenter said. "Recovery-wise, we have to be smart, and I didn't recover well enough lately to take the chance and throw me back out there. The point is, we're not going to take any chances if there's any doubt whatsoever." Carpenter won't be a late-inning option until he can recover from appearances well enough to be available at least every other day.

I agree that Perez should be the Closer and will continue to be used in the 9th inning regardless, my point was more that using Carpenter as a reliever made much more sense. (Also that there was a good possiblitly that he may be used to close out games toward the end of the season).

Either way it was repeatedly scoffed at that Carpenter would ever be used in that capacity.

Lyon just blew it but he pitched bottom 8 in tie game then Wilson came in top of 9 for SF and blew it and then they asked Lyon to pitched 2 and he walked one and gave up a single then a triple to lose the game 4-3. Got two closer situations there. Wilson just blew it and Lyon I think was asked to do to much.

Percival pulled from the game after a double and two walks. Leaves bases loaded with no out in a 4-1 ball game.

Hanrahan pretty much went in there for mop up duty last night. Is he out of a closer job? Is someone else the closer?

For what its worth, Jenks didn't look all that good last night. Hopefully nothing to worry about just yet, but he hasn't looked that good lately.

With Wagner out for next year, who looks like the front runner for 09? Ayala? Kunz? I don't think Heilman but he's also a possibility.

What does the cafe think here?

Hmm... So your faith in humanity is on the line. I'll have to give a call to the Diamondbacks management to let them know. But just a warning... they haven't listened to me much this season. :-D

Yeah, I'm wondering if its worth holding on to him at this point. I should just pick up a holds pitcher in his place at this point.. although as luck would have it, he did pick me up a hold last night.

My whole relief staff has fallen apart on me this week. Hanrahan and Lyon... and Jenks has struggled, and Lewis hasn't got any opportunities! My total saves for the week... a big fat zero. But thats how it works with saves sometimes.
