Can anyone honestly blame Torre for not starting Pierre?

Manny, Ethier, and Kemp are just vastly superior players than Pierre. Your need of SB's is the last of Torre's worries.

I'm not sold on Ethier as "vastly" superior... he's got more power and walks more, but with Manny in the line up I think Pierre makes just as much sense leading off with that speed

Huh. Pierre stinks. Hitters with a .324 OBP with no power are not valuable (esp if they don't play a premium defensive position). speed is wasted if you can't get on base.

If Pierre is platooning only against LHP he is pretty much worthless in any league format. Not only is he a lefty but naturally lefties are tougher to steal on.
