No Relievers!... Playoffs? Playoffs?!

Postby zechs » Mon Jul 14, 2008 1:21 am

This is a 16-team head-to-head mixed league that counts saves & holds. I've made a bunch of changes and I've almost stuck to having no closers and no setup men to try to win. Will my team make the playoffs if I keep sticking to the "no reliever" plan?

Rate my team as well, if you'd like...

Roster:
C Yadier Molina(StL - C)
1B Carlos Peña(TB - 1B)
2B Howie Kendrick(LAA - 2B)
3B Evan Longoria(TB - 3B)
SS Hanley Ramírez(Fla - SS)
LF Manny Ramírez(Bos - LF)
CF Nate McLouth(Pit - LF,CF,RF)
RF Jeremy Hermida(Fla - RF)
Util Adam LaRoche(Pit - 1B)
SP Chris Young(SD - SP) DL
RP Justin Duchscherer(Oak - SP,RP)
P Tim Lincecum(SF - SP)
P Tim Hudson(Atl - SP)
P Matt Garza(TB - SP)
P Manny Parra(Mil - SP,RP)
P Micah Owings(Ari - SP)
P Dana Eveland(Oak - SP)
P Jonathan Sanchez(SF - SP,RP)
BN Chad Tracy(Ari - 1B,3B)
BN David DeJesús(KC - LF,CF,RF)
BN Jason Kubel(Min - LF,RF)
BN Willie Bloomquist(Sea - 2B,3B,SS,LF,CF,RF)
DL Víctor Martínez(Cle - C,1B) DL
BN Jorge Campillo(Atl - SP,RP)
BN Kevin Slowey(Min - SP)
BN Jair Jurrjens(Atl - SP)
DL Dustin McGowan(Tor - SP) DL

Six teams make the playoffs. I'm right dead-smack on the middle in 8th place out of 16, and 2.5 games behind 6th place coming into the All-Star break.

Thanks in advance for your help.

in the 10 year experience i have in fantasy sports, no team has ever won or even been near the top when they dump 1 category, much less 2. You have the hitting and pitching depth, why not trade and go after some hold/saves guys? your could easily pick up 3-5 of those guys for what you have. even if u finish in the bottom 5 of those categories you'll still gain 4-6 pts. more then u would have without trading without sacraficing much, if at all, in the other categories.

I agree because it's a 16 team league you need at lesast 2 closers also see if you can get someone like mahay to keep your era down.

I would drop Bloomquist and maybe even Kubel and pick up some Relief pitching. You could also try and see if someone would trade a RP for Martinez, because you have Yadier already.
