I noticed that there's a high number of All-Star pitchers who are also starting today (the Sunday before ASG). The list includes Lincecum, Hamels, Kazmir, Webb, Duchscherer, and Dempster. Will these guys' managers handle them any differently because they will also throw an inning or two on Tuesday, especially if they might start (Webb or Hamels) or if they are young guys whose workload is being closely managed (Lincecum)? Think they will be held to 5 IP no matter what?
Also, do you think that knowing they might/will pitch on Tuesday will have any effect on these guys' performances today? Is there any correlation between being in the all-star game and its impact on the Sunday-before starts?

I don't think they will be handled any different. If anything it should be the All-Star manager's job to adjust.

I was listening to Terry Francona on the radio this morning, from what he was saying those pitchers "should be ready to pitch" in the ASG because that is part of their obligation being in the ASG, but Francona will probably lean to not using those particular pitchers if he doesn't need to, definitely not more than an inning.

Wouldn't the All-Star game just be the pitchers' "throw day" anyway (I thought that 2 days after a start was the "throw day")? So they could easily throw an inning in the All-Star game without affecting their status for the rest of the year.....

yeah, most pitchers would throw 30 or so pitches a few days after = perfect for an inning and bullpen session at the ASG
