Gio Gonzalez, SP OAK
News: Athletics SP Gio Gonzalez will make his major-league debut Wednesday at Toronto. "I'm excited to see it," manager Bob Geren said. "This is another one of the guys who is a big piece of what we're building here. It's going to be great to see him get the experience and get it started right here." The 22-year-old Gonzalez was 8-7 with a 4.24 ERA with Triple-A Sacramento, where he struck out 128 batters and walked 61 in 123 innings. He pitched eight shutout innings Friday in a victory over Nashville.
Analysis: Gonzalez is owned in 13 percent of leagues right now even though he hasn't made an appearance in the majors yet. That tells you what kind of prospect this kid is. Gonzalez is only 8-7 with 4.24 ERA in the minors this season, has been traded three times already, and can have control problems on occasion, so he does have some question marks. But he is worth adding in most AL-only formats as a nice second-half sleeper option.
Also, a report says Ian Kennedy will start Saturday for the Yanks. Which would you rather have?
