That's what I'm hearing. It doesn't seem like the Sox will make a big play at trying to resign Cabrera.
Hopefully that doesn't mean Juan Uribe will be the opening day 2B in '09.

That means he'll quickly have the luxurious 2B/SS eligibility and could become very valuable.

Any chance the Sox try Fields at second with no room at third or in the outfield? Danny Richard might also have 10 HR/20 SB potential if they decide to put him and his low average there over Uribe.

I have no idea what the Sox are going to do with Fields, if they resign Crede. His natural position is 3B, they tried him out in left field. Why not give him a shot at second?

From what I've seen from Richar, I don't think he's ready to be a major league starter. As much as I loathe Juan Uribe, he's pretty solid in the field. His approach at the plate is what I could do without.

I'm not sure how long this'll last. AJ's injury is the main reason Alexei was moved up today.

Right now I'd say Ramirez will play ss next year for the Sox. I can't see the Sox spending the money on an aging free agent like Cabrera, plus, Cabrera has had problems with Ozzie Guillen and Jermaine Dye this season.
As for Josh Fields, he's below average defensively at third base so I can't imagine him moving to second. He'll likely play third. It's pretty likely that Crede will play on some other team next year.
