who's the better SS minor league prospect?

Postby Shelton Southpaw » Sat Jul 12, 2008 12:20 pm

There are 2 good minor leaugue prospect SS in AA ball:

Elvis Andrus, SS, in the Rangers, minor league system - he is currently playing in AA Frisco - who will be playing in the Futures Game this weekend

Alcides Escobar, SS, in the Brewers, minor league system - he is currently playing in AA Huntsville

Both players are putting up some good stats in AA ball.

Who do you think is the better player and will continue to approve at the next level?
Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

You gotta go with Andrus, he's major league ready with the glove now so when he makes it to the bigs he will have that to fall back on. With that said, his offense is all projectability right now, he hasn't show much with the stick to date. He is finally having a solid year so far with the bat but he won't blow the doors down in any category other than SB, at least early on in his MLB career, IMHO.

In fantasy I would lean to Alcides though. I think he's one year closer and has started showing a little power this season. Both of them have fantasy value to fall back with SB's though.

Andrus. He is holding his own in AA at 19 which is almost 2 years younger than Escobar....plus he will play his home games in Texas.

Funny, I read the same thing but on Escobar, in that Escobar's glove was ready now but there were concerns about his bat, and he's now helping by having a good season for Huntsville, but scouts aren't totally sold yet.

Good to know....I don't know as much about Escobar as I do Andrus. I just liked the fact that Andrus is a couple years younger and his skill set and pedigree has been rated higher throughout his short career.

I'm not too high on either guy, when it comes to fantasy. I would say Andrus has the better fantasy potential, but neither has really shown much to me where I'd want to have them on my keeper roster.
Jody, Jody Davis. Hits 'em high and far. Jody, Jody Davis. He's a superstar. Holy Cow!!!! http://www.stinkytee.com

I'd go with Alcides. But I'm a brewers fan! ;-D
