He is one of those guys that always tends to have great peripherals but doesn't always translate to good results. Pitchers who are in the strike zone will obviously get hit more. 2007 was not very different from any other years for Javy except that he was a bit luckier. Bonderman, Bush are also pitchers that almost always seem to have good peripherals that do not translate to good results.

another crappy start for Javy... this guy makes no sense, he showed a lot of improvemnt against the rangers last start... then this performance against the tigers, I'm just going to have to weather the storm, my season's lost right now anyways, and at least Javy has ace potential unlike the majority of waiver wire fodder out there...
Start him against teams with poor plate discipline and high strikeout rates, and he'll be solid. He's one of those guys who really needs to strike out 8-10, b/c if he doesn't then a lot of the guys who make contact are going to get extra bases on him. He's an extreme flyball guy and he gives up a ton of homers.
Detroit is almost exactly the type of team that you shouldn't want him to go up against. They have a ton of fairly patient hitters who have loft in their swings (Mags, Sheffield, Cabrera, Guillen).
well I learned a valuable lesson today... though i'm SOOOO far behind in innings pitched that I thought i'd give him a shot... from here on out I think i'll avoid the likes of the yankees, tigers and probably red sox against him... he's just been so hard to understand this year, I still think he's got some great starts left in the tank
i'm holding onto the son of a ... don't know why, probably because there's still lots of talent in my league's FA pool... he's shown "improvement" the last couple starts... tonight against Kansas will be telling... i'm giving him ONE more week, then i'll seriously consider dropping him. I just can't get his start to the year out of my mind, he was filthy, and he's shown glimpses of it lately... just needs to string a couple of gems together
He had been pretty good for Montreal prior to 2004 so it's not like 2007 came out of nowhere really. He is just wildly inconsistent not only from year to year but also from start to start. Basically expect inconsistency and you won't be shocked when he gets shelled just as when he throws a gem. Although his WHIP is higher now than it has been since 2000 so that is a little concerning. Still, he's just about impossible to predict unless this is the beginning of a downward career trend. He's still young enuogh and has remained healthy most of his career so I still expect him to bounce back at some point. Whether it's this year or not.
