Which pitching startegy nets me more points

OK, the deal is I am a distant 5th place in my 5x5 10 man redraft.

I have 51 points and the leader is at 82

Here are the pitching cats with my rank and the leader.

ERA- 3.35 ME- 4.10 (8th place)

WHIP- 1.22 ME- 1.36 (9th place)

WINS- 60 ME- 36 (9th place)

SO- 771 ME- 643 (5th place)

SAVES- 84 ME -50 (6th place)


I just acquired Johan in a trade to maybe setup a strategy of going only with SP.

Would trading all closers and going with starter work better than trading all starters and going with all MR/closer?

Thanks for the help. Tough one, but my opinion based on your situation is SP will get you the most help in most categories. MR won't help much with Ks and their low innings totals will not move ERA & WHIP too much now. Try the SP route and good luck!

agree with Yanks - as long as you arent just chasing wins, i dont see a problem with that strategy

So would you guys trade all your closers? i do not see any point in keeping any.

Krod should fetch me a second/third tier SP.

Percival can be dumped and I will hold Putz until he is back then trade him.

Gonzo can also be dropped.

well one thing to consider is the innings pitched limit. where are you at now? too many starters and you could pass it. how far could you fall in saves if you have no closers? in a 10 man, i imagine you could spot start fairly effectively.

There is no limit.

You have to log 900+ IN all year and right now I am at 817

I am so far down in ERA, WHIP and Wins, I think to make a big move I have to punt saves.

As said here and articles I have read. MR and closers are not going to bring a bottom feeding ERA to the top, getting lucky with starters has a better shot I feel.

Just read the CBS league rules.

"Each team's pitching staff must accumulate at least 900* innings pitched over the course of the season or it will be placed in last place in the team ERA and WHIP categories"

Does this mean that I can start 4 solid closers and fill the other spots with unjured players to gain in saves, Whip and Era?

I did this same thing last year in Fantasy Baseketball for FG% and FT% and ended up winning my league. I only did it for 4 weeks, not half a season.

I will start another post on this subject just in case other want to read.

I understand what your saying. If you can surround pitching staff with great SPs, will quickly bring up everything, minus the saves. Your SP strategy is a gamble worth taking and if it works out, it can bring you to the top.
