A frustrating little update from CBS Sportsline:

"(Matt Kemp)...has now struck out 32 times in his past 90 plate appearances beginning June 20."

He goes 0 + 2 in a ridiculous amount of his ABs. Is there any stats source that records every pitch a guy sees? I`d love to see the actual numbers on how often Kemp digs a hole for himself.

ESPN has splits for situation, so you can see he has been in an 0-2 count in 36 of 334 ABs. Fangraphs also reports plate discipline so you can see what percent of pitches out of the zone he swings at, etc.

The thing about Kemp is he is not making adjustments to the pitchers. I have also seen a few times where he is inline for a walk but he will chase crap allowing the at-bat to continue. If he can start making adjustments, i think you will see those numbers flip in the second half. Around 15 HR's, and 8-12 SB.

Conversely, Kemp's also baffled by offspeed pitches when they hit the zone and lays off them. Kemp has greater success when he's ahead of the count but if he's down 0-1, 0-2, he'll either take the pitch not quite recognizing it (second guessing) or he'll chase out of the zone as you pointed out.

he's one of the few players that actually has 40/40 potential. Kemp is a beast at the plate he just needs to better his plate discipline
