Chan Ho Park

Postby sansav » Tue Jul 01, 2008 10:08 am

OK, I am I really posting a topic on Chan Ho Park ... I must have truly hit rock bottom.

Seriously though, he has pitched fairly well this year and all the reports on him is that he is throwing as well as he ever has. Throw out the one bad outing against Detroit (1 IP, 5 ER) and his are extremely good. At one time he was actually a pretty good pitcher.

For a 12 team, NL-Only league, what are people's thoughts - pick up or avoid?

2 of his starts have been against the Angels, and their offense is pathetic. I would stay away from him. I think you'll get some solid games out of him, but he will also just blow up in others. If you're in a H2H league, I would go crazy with him on my staff never knowing which Chan Ho I am going to get.

A couple of things to note... His velocity is way up this year and he seems to be healthier. I doubt he can stay healthy for 3 months but if he does then I think he can be helpful in standard leagues.

Park isn't in the current rotation, is he?
I'm looking at some pitching probables and I don't see his name anywhere.

He had started a pair of games, but with Kuroda starting Wednesday, he's back to a relief role.

I think the reason Chan Ho's velocity is up is because it seems that his legs are healthier than they've been in quite some time, which of course could translate into increased velocity for a power pitcher. This doesn't mean his K rate will spike up a great deal though and the last outing vs. the Angels was more of the Angels looking lost at the plate than Chan Ho's stuff being a semblance of how good it once was.

That said, Chan Ho's probably back to the pen with Kuroda set to start again, but he's a nice emergency starter option. In fantasy leagues, I'd say Kuo's the more useful pickup knowing he can pick up a few extra K's in relief work.
