not sure if this qualifies as news... it's ominous, but completely uninformative... thought i'd post it anyways:
HOUSTON -- Outfielder Jason Repko was expected to be activated for Monday night's game against the Astros, although the player he will replace on the Dodgers roster was still to be determined.
Repko, who took early batting practice with the Dodgers at Minute Maid Park, most likely would take the spot of outfielder Juan Pierre, who injured his left knee Sunday. The club was awaiting results of an MRI and Pierre is expected to be placed on the disabled list. If Pierre's injury is not serious, the club figured to make room for Repko by moving another player because it would be short outfielders.
The 30-year-old Pierre has never been on the disabled list in an eight-year career, but he was in pain when he left Sunday's game. Pierre made a headfirst dive while stealing second base when Angels infielder Erick Aybar fell and landed on the bottom of Pierre's left leg, twisting the knee.
The Dodgers have nine other players on the disabled list -- Tony Abreu, Nomar Garciaparra, Jason Schmidt, Rafael Furcal, Gary Bennett, Andruw Jones, Hiroki Kuroda, Brad Penny and Scott Proctor. Garciaparra, Schmidt, Furcal and Jones are currently on Minor League injury rehabilitation assignments. Kuroda and Penny are expected to return to the starting rotation this week.
Repko, rebounding from two seasons of injuries, is hitting .277 with six home runs, 57 runs, 29 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. The 27-year-old spent most of the season batting below .230, but has a current six-game hitting streak during which he's batting .455. Earlier this month he had a 14-game hitting streak, bringing his June average to .375.
For every Brett Myers there's a Nate McLouth...
