Jake McGee to have TJ surgery?

Jacob McGee

NEWS: Rays prospect Jake McGee was diagnosed with a torn elbow ligament and is likely to undergo Tommy John surgery.

IMPACT: McGee did look like the biggest injury risk among the Rays' big-three pitching prospects (with Jeremy Hellickson added in, it's a big four now), but this is something he should be able to come back from. It just pushes his timetable back by 12-15 months.

Isn't Niemann the only definite guy that would head to Pittsburgh? Would Niemann + Wade Davis get it done or will TB need to offer more pieces?

Does McGee getting TJ make it any more likely that he'll be the guy who ends up as their closer of the future?

Niemann and Davis looks good to me if we land Bay. It is possible that the TJ surgery definitely throws McGee into a reliever role when he gets back late 09 or early 10.

I agree with both thoughts

I have heard that the Pirates really covet Niemann and that is the main target of the deal. The whispers are getting stronger around the Rays that they will make a deal for Bay
